After 28 hour journey we successfully reached Mumbai. Finally! Don’t get me wrong, train journey was very smooth but laying in the same 3 foot square for 28 hours makes your bits and peaces a bit sour.

The minute we got out of a train, strong humidity wave hit straight in the face. No complaints here either, as heat was exactly what we were craving all the time when up in North. And heat is not the only thing that makes South different from North. So far, haven’t seen an accessive amount of men peeing or spitting in the streets, not many wondering around cows either. and best of all, tuk tuk’s have fitted in meters, so you know what you pay for (and no exhausting bargaining/arguing about the price)!

no more rip off's!

Mumbai seems very commercial and developed. Was absolutely above the clouds when found a Starbucks and had my first Frappuccino! Also KFC, big shopping malls, mostly everything you find strolling along Oxford street in London. But what my eye was security- everywhere! At the entrance to the mall, station, supermarket and even McDonalds! I mean, why do you need to scan people coming to get McChicken sandwich?!

We had 5 days in Mumbai before heading more south and are extremely thankful to Samit for housing us those days. It really helped to get a long needed rest and stock back up the energy.

Second night had a chance to see  Mumbai’s night life and finally feel a little bit like home. I wouldn’t say there is much to see here culture or monument wise. We did everything in half day. Went from north all the way to south and visited Gateway of India, Hali Ali Dargah mosque, Queens Necklace (day and night time) and Povai lake. While trying to take a picture of Gateway of India we were again surrounded and attacked by many indians asking for a picture with them, autograph, phone number, friendship etc. At some point it makes me wonder maybe they’re mistaking me for some kind of celebrity or something… But I come to the conclusion, that peoples reaction to my appearance doesn’t differ in south or north, they’re still ‘mesmerised’ by european face features and blonde hair.

Went into McDonalds to get some cheeseburgers and realised they don’t exist in India because they don’t eat beef, DAAH! And still everything on a menu was either veg or chicken masala, which mean spicy. Apart from ice cream:)

So far, so good. The only massive drawback about this gigantic cosmopolitan city is THE TRAFFIC! Oh please, government, do something about it… And for the time being, we are heading even more south as finally the time came for sandy beaches, seaside and bikinis!
