From casual mermaid to Certified Diver

From casual mermaid to Certified Diver

I have dived once before, a few years ago in a pool in London. It didn’t go well; too cold and too scary. And after that dive I gave up- I’m not going to fall into passionate divers category. But then, after two years, I’ve reached Utila, and indeed the storyline changed.

I went to snorkel into beautiful clear waters and it got me there. I signed up for an open water diving course. After reading numerous of blogs I chose to dive with Parrots. Instructor Ron was so amazing that after my course I did advanced open water, which allows you to dive much deeper. (more…)

Photo essay of Semuc Champey

Lanquin being a very small and remote village mostly attracts it’s tourists by nearby Semuc Champey.

Don’t even have words to describe it, you have to see it to believe!

Long story short, took us 35min in a truck with babies, pigs, drunk guys and an old sick women to get there, all for the sake of saving 10Q. Was fun for the first 10min and once pig got loaded as well as five stacks of boxes strapped to the roof, sh** got real. (more…)

Rio Dulce and how we hitchhiked to hot springs

Rio Dulce and how we hitchhiked to hot springs

‘Rio Dulce is a must visit in Guatemala’- I was told by many travellers. So here I am, last night in my dorm on a water, typing out my disappointment.

Honestly, wouldn’t put it on my must see places list. The only reason I ended up here is to use it as a connection point to either Belize or Honduras, at the point of arrival was still undecided. First night spent at Bruno’s was in correct words awful. Not mentioning flying cockroaches, dorm building was just next to the massive bridge, where at least dozen of trucks pass every hour, 24/7. It feels like helicopters circling outside your window and some kind of war happening at the same time. Even my super-duper earplugs were not able to isolate all of the madness. To make things worse, power was lost around 6am turning off all the fans and water. Vuolia, don’t forget this cost us 50Q for a dorm bed.

Let me make this story more Disney World like, with a happy ending. (more…)

Rock, paper, scissors. Honduras wins!

Rock, paper, scissors. Honduras wins!

Once upon my travels, I decided to visit Honduras. Yes, same Honduras that is in top 10 most dangerous countries in Americas. Weird category to be a winner at.
Taking it’s reputation into acount, I’ve aimed to reached Utila in one day. I was aware that it’s over 600km between Rio Dulce and La Ceiba with a border crossing which usually slows back the journey dramatically. But with a little research and a fortune in my pocket I was hopeing to bring a plan into reality and be on a last ferry to Utila at 4PM. (more…)
