The idyllic group of 27 tropical islands that form the Karimunjawa Islands is one of those places that is amazing to visit, yet has very few visitors. It’s located about 90km off the north coast of Central Java and due to it’s location visitors in Java have to deviate from the normal route through the island which generally goes Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bromo, Bali. But changing up this standard itinerary really allows you to access some less visited places such as these islands. (more…)

Back to the past. Ancient city of Fenghuang

Fenghuang (Phoenix) Ancient Town, an old town built up in Qing Dynasty, is still being kept in its original appearance with 300 years passed. It is also one of the most famous and most picturesque ancient towns of China.

Fenghuang is insanely beautiful and, of course, incredibly popular among Chinese and foreign tourists and I would definitely put it on the must see list, if you’re near by. It is like a maze of quiet street-alleys where you can get lost exploring and feel the old town breathing. However, most of the time Fenghuang is over crowded. Saying that, my biggest disappointment was evening scenery. It looks beautiful in the dark but with the high demand of tourists it turns into clubbing paradise and looses its charm. (more…)

Pandas, pandas, pandas- they’re everywhere once you arrive in Chengdu; every shop window, cars, merchandise and even graffiti.

The giant pandas are not only a Chinese national treasure but are also beloved by people all around the world. They are found only in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. In total there are fewer than 2,000, of which 70% are distributed within the territory of Sichuan Province. Therefore, when visitors come to Chengdu, one of their main objectives will be to see this lovely animal. (more…)

Without a doubt one of China’s most famous and popular tourist sites, the Terracotta Warriors is the most impressive underground attraction in China. This incredible collection of well over 6,000 figures was accidentally unearthed by a group of peasants trying to dig a well in 1974. Instead of water, they found a 2,000-year-old statue of a warrior made to protect the Tomb of the Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the founder of the Qin Dynasty and the first man to rule over a unified China. Fast-forward thirty-some years and the emperor’s underground army has become an enormously popular tourist destination. (more…)
